Rizact 5 mg is a medicine used for the treatment of migraine attacks with or without aura. It is extremely effective in relieving headache and other symptoms including nausea, sensitivity to sound and light. The medicine comprises the active ingredient Rizatriptan, which cannot be used to prevent migraine headaches from occurring. Maxalt is the generic of Rizact 5 mg. These tablets should be best taken after the first early signs of headache/aura appears. Rizatriptan is categorized under the drug class triptans that mimics the action of a chemical called serotonin. This brain chemical helps to control mood, pain sensation, sleep, as well as widening and narrowing of blood vessels in the brain.

Clinical Uses of Rizact 5 Mg

Rizact is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of severe migraine headaches. It narrows the blood vessels to relieve throbbing pain associated with migraine. The medicine contains Rizatriptan as the active ingredient which helps in effectively treating an acute attack of migraine. It works by inhibiting the substance that causes headaches and associated sensitivity to bright light and sound. Rizatriptan does not help in the prevention and reduction of frequent attack of migraine.

Dosing Instructions

One can use Rizact tablet at any stage of a migraine attack, but it is considered more effective when taken at an early stage or when the first signs of migraine headache are observed. It may be taken before or after having meals but may work faster if taken on an empty stomach. Generally, the dosage and duration of the treatment are based on the age, medical condition, response to treatment, and other drugs you may be taking. The dosage for children is based on body weight. Make sure you tell your health care specialist about all the products including herbal supplements and vitamins.

If there is no improvement even after completing the course, talk to your health care provider for further advice and till then do not take more doses of this medication. If your headache comes back, your health care specialist may ask you to take another dose at least two hours after the first dose. On the other hand, children should not take more than one dose at a time.

Possible Side Effects

The commonly reported side effects of Rizact are nausea, vomiting, problem in coordination, blurry vision, joint pain, tremors, excessive sweating, muscular spasms, extreme fatigue, confusion, change in the heart rate, difficulty in breathing fluctuations in blood pressure, depression, hallucinations, flu-like symptoms, extreme agitation, hyperventilation, abdomen pain, dizziness, drowsiness, etc. Serious side effects may include stroke, weakness, at one side of the body, speech problems, and loss of movements in the hands and legs. 

You should consult a health care specialist before starting a treatment with Rizact 5 mg especially if you have a medical history of heart problems, high cholesterol, and blood pressure. This migraine drug may not be taken by pregnant ladies, nursing mothers, women who have reached menopause, men who are above 40 years of age, or a patient undergoing kidney dialysis.
