It treats asthma in adults and adolescents aged 12 to 17. It also effectively treats chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) symptoms in adults 18 years and older. It combines two medicines, namely budesonide and Formoterol. Budesonide is categorised under the class of medications known as corticosteroids. It reduces and prevents swelling and inflammation in your lungs. Formoterol is a bronchodilator that relaxes the muscles in your airways, helping you breathe more easily.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Asthma&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Symbicort\nTurbuhaler can be used for asthma in the following ways:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Some people are prescribed Symbicort daily with a separate reliever inhaler when needed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You take a fixed dose of Symbicort Turbuhaler daily. To help prevent asthma symptoms from happening.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use a separate reliever inhaler when you develop asthma symptoms to help you breathe more easily.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Symbicort Turbuhaler daily and also when required (Symbicort maintenance and reliever therapy)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You take Symbicort daily to help prevent asthma<br>symptoms from occurring.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You also take Symbicort Turbuhaler when you require<br>extra doses to relieve asthma symptoms and make it easier for you to breathe.<br>You don\u2019t need a separate reliever medicine.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You may also use Symbicort to prevent asthma<br>symptoms from happening, for example, when exercising or on exposure to<br>allergens.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Symbicort<br>only when required for relieving asthma symptoms (Symbicort for mild asthma)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You use Symbicort when you develop asthma symptoms<br>to make it easier for you to breathe again. There is no need to use a separate<br>inhaler.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can also use Symbicort Turbuhaler to prevent<br>asthma symptoms from occurring while exercising or on exposure to<br>allergens.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Chronic\nobstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Symbicort\nTurbuhaler can also be prescribed to treat the symptoms of COPD in adults. COPD\nis a long-term illness of the airways in the lungs, which is often caused by\ncigarette smoking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dosage\nand administration<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In Asthma&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recommended dose for adults 18 years and older is 1 to 2 inhalations twice daily. Your doctor may increase the dose to 4 inhalations twice daily. Once your symptoms are well controlled, you may be asked to use this medicine once daily. The usual dose of <strong>Symbicort Turbuhaler 160\/4 mcg<\/strong> for adolescents 12 to 17 years is 1 to 2 inhalations twice daily. If your symptoms are well controlled, you may be asked to take the medicine once daily.\u00a0Generally, a lower strength is available for children aged 6 to 11. Symbicort is not recommended for use in children younger than 6 years of age.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In COPD<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The medicine should only be used by adults 18 and older. The usual recommended dose is 2 inhalations twice daily.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Usage\ninstructions for best results<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every\ntime you need to take an inhalation, it is important to follow these\ninstructions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Unscrew the cover of the mouthpiece; while doing so, you may hear a rattling sound. Hold your Symbicort straight with the red grip at the bottom.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not hold the mouthpiece while loading a dose. To load the device with a dose, be sure to turn the red grip as far as it will go in one direction. Then, turn it as far as it will go in the other direction. You must hear a clicking sound. It doesn\u2019t matter whether the sound comes in the first or the second twist. The device is now loaded and ready to use. Load it only when you need it.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hold the device away from your mouth. Gently breathe out. Avoid breathing through your Turbuhaler.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place the mouthpiece between your lips. Breathe in as deeply as you can through your mouth.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove the device from your mouth. Then, gently breathe out. With Symbicort, you can be sure you have inhaled the dose, and the medicine delivers it directly into your lungs.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Please repeat the steps if you have been advised to take another dose.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After your doses, wash your mouth with water and spit it out.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Other\nmedications with Symbicort<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some medications that can interact with the Budesonide\/Formoterol drug:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Medicines for fast or uneven heartbeat<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medicines, including Digoxin, to treat heart failure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Beta-blocker drugs such as atenolol or  propranolol for high blood pressure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Oral steroids such as prednisone<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Diuretics or water tablets such as Furosemide<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other bronchodilators such as salbutamol<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Xanthine medicines such as theophylline or aminophylline to treat asthma<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Phenothiazine medicines such as prochlorperazine and chlorpromazine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline and the antidepressant nefazodone<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medicines to treat HIV infection<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drugs used to treat Parkinson\u2019s disease<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drugs to treat infections include itraconazole, voriconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin, and      telithromycin.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medicines for thyroid problems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>See\nmedical advice before using Symbicort Turbuhaler if you are pregnant or\nbreastfeeding.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important\nthings to know before using Symbicort<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are allergic to budesonide, Formoterol, or the other ingredients in this medicine.
