  • Coadministration of colestipol, cholestyramine, sucralfate with Lasix may decrease the effect of Lasix
  • Gouty arthritis may develop if cyclosporine is administered at the same time as Furosemide is administered.
  • Avoid using NSAIDs as these drugs may increase the effects of Furosemide.
  • There is an increased risk of salicylate toxicity with the use of high of salicylate treatment.

When should Lasix not be used?

  • The medicine is not suitable for patients who have been demonstrated hypersensitivity towards the active or inactive ingredients of the formulation.
  • The safety and efficacy have not been established if used during lactation.
  • Care should be exercised if used in the following population:
  • Renal hepatic impaired patients
  • Pediatric patients
  • Geriatric patients

How should Lasix be used?


  • For adults-The initial recommended dose is 20 to 80 mg per day as a single dose. Your physician may increase your dose or may repeat 6 to 8 hours later, if required. The daily dose may be increased by 30 or 40 mg and administered not sooner than 6 to 8 hours after the previous dose until the desired effect has been achieved. The individually determined single dose should then be administered as a maintenance dose. The maximum dose should not exceed 600 mg daily. Edema can be cured by giving this medicine for 2 to 4 consecutive days. Doses more than 80 mg per day should be administered under careful clinical observation.
  • For elderly patients- Usually, a low dose is recommended for the elderly patient.
  • For the pediatric patient, the suggested initial dose is 2 mg per kg, and it should be given as a single dose. Depending on the health condition of your child, your physician may increase the dose by 1 or 2 kg no sooner than 6 to 8 hours after the previous dose. The maximum dose should not exceed 6 mg per kilogram. A dose of the minimum effective level will be used as maintenance therapy.

For hypertension:

For adults-The recommended initial dose is 80 mg. It can be administered in two equal doses of 40 mg twice daily. Dosage may be adjusted according to the further response to the treatment. In case the response is not satisfactory, Lasix may be administered in combination with other hypertensive agents. Blood pressure should be monitored periodically during the therapy.

For geriatric patients- Adjustment of doses is required in the elderly patient.

How long should you use Lasix?

Lasix should be used as long as it is recommended by your physician. Use it accordingly as prescribed by your physician.

Missed dose of Lasix

If you forget to take your dose of Lasix in time, please do it as soon as you notice. But, do not take if it is too late for your next scheduled dose. Do not increase your prescribed dose. To avoid missing, take your dose at the time each day.

How should Lasix be stored?

Store it at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture, children, and pets. Avoid freezing the tablets.
