Vesigard is a prescription medicine used to treat overactive bladder with symptoms including urge incontinence, frequency, and urgency. It contains Darifenacin as the active ingredient, which acts as a muscarinic receptor antagonist, which antagonizes bladder smooth muscle contraction. This decreases symptoms of an overactive bladder.

About Vesigard

Vesigard is a medicine used in adults to treat the following symptoms due to overactive bladder:

  • Urgency- having a strong need to toilet right away
  • Urinary incontinence- Leaking or wetting accidents
  • Urinary frequency- need to go to the toilet too often

Overactive bladder is a condition that develops when you cannot get your bladder contractions. When these muscle contractions happen or cannot be controlled, you start experiencing symptoms of overactive bladder.

Dosage information

Take your Vesigard tablets exactly as prescribed by your physician. Your physician will prescribe the correct dose for you after analyzing your condition. Your physician may prescribe the lowest dose if you have certain health complications such as liver impairment. You should take Vesigard once daily with a glass of water. Swallow it whole, do not chew, divide, or crush the tablet. The tablet can be consumed regardless of food. If you miss a dose of your medication, start taking it again the next day instead of doubling up of on doses. Also, avoid taking too many tablets, if you take, immediately visit your nearest health care center.

Possible side effects of Vesigard

The most commonly reported side effects were constipation and dry mouth. The medicine may cause other less common side effects that include:

  • Swelling of the face, tongue, or throat. Stop taking medicine and take immediate medical attention if you experience swelling of the tongue or throat, or if you experience breathing problems.
  • Users may develop a blurred vision as a side effect of Vesigard. Exercise caution while driving or doing activities that require attention.

Who should not take Vesigard?

Do not take Vesigard if you:

  • Are allergic to Darifenacin or its other ingredients
  • Are unable to empty your bladder
  • Have an eye condition called open angle glaucoma

What are the dosages for Vesigard?

Take the tablet once daily without regards to food. The medicine is available in the form of an extended-release tablet must be swallowed with plenty of water. Do not crush, break, or chew the tablet.

Precautions

  • The use of Vesigard is not recommended in patients with known hypersensitivity.
  • It should not be used in patients with urinary retention
  • The medicine is not suitable for patients with uncontrolled angle closure glaucoma
  • Patients with severe hepatic impairment should avoid using vesigard extended-release tablets

Use it cautiously in the following conditions:

  • Moderate hepatic impairment
  • Gastrointestinal obstructive disorders
  • Severe constipation
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • Angle-closure glaucoma
  • Myasthenia Gravis
  • Bladder outflow obstruction

The safety and efficacy of Darifenacin have not been established in lactating mothers, therefore use it only if the maternity benefit outweighs the fetal risk.

Take Darifenacin (Vesigard) as directed by the physician. You must read your prescription before starting therapy and with each prescription refill. If a dose is missed, skip it and take the next day. Do not take two doses on the same day. Avoid sharing the medicine with others; it can be dangerous. A patient should inform the physician of potential anticholinergic side effects such as blurred vision, constipation, urinary retention, and heat prostration in a hot environment. Notify your physician of all over the counter medications including herbal supplements, vitamins, that you are taking and consult your physician before starting a new treatment. Female patients are advised to inform their physician if pregnancy is planned or suspected.
