Amiodar 100mg is a prescription medicine used in adults to treat life-threatening heartbeat problems medically termed as ventricular arrhythmias. It is used when other treatments did not work or were not tolerated. The medication has not been shown to support people with life-threatening heartbeat disorders live longer. The treatment should be started in a hospital under the close supervision of a medical expert. Generally, it requires regular checkups, chest X-rays, eye exams, and blood tests before and during treatment with Amiodar tablets to monitor for serious adverse effects.
Amiodar 100mg contains Amiodarone HCL as the active ingredient, a medication in the class of anti-arrhythmics. The class of medication works by controlling the irregular heartbeat. Taking Amiodar 100 mg helps your heartbeat return to normal. It is also prescribed to treat Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome, a condition in which your heart beats unusually fast. Amiodarone HCL is also effective in treating irregular heartbeats, such as atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation. The medication is usually prescribed when other therapies are not feasible. The anti-arrhythmic medication treats rapid heartbeats that may occur suddenly and be irregular.

Amiodar tablets should not be used if you are hypersensitive to Amiodarone HCL or any other components of the formulation. Before taking the drug, let your healthcare provider know about the medical history of certain eye problems, heart failure, kidney disease, asthma, lung disease and thyroid problems. The anti-arrhythmic medicine may cause dizziness. Do not drive or use machinery while taking Amiodarone HCL, as these activities may require a high degree of mental attention. Consult your healthcare professional before having surgery or an operation, or if you are pregnant or intending to become pregnant. You should discuss the benefits and risks of taking Amiodarone tablets during pregnancy. Breastfeeding women are advised not to take Amiodarone tablets as they may pass into breast milk and harm the nursing baby. Protect yourself from direct sunlight. Use Sunscreen products when you go outside. If you cannot digest some sugars, consult your physician before taking Amiodar. The medicine contains iodine; it may cause thyroid problems.

Like other medicines, Amiodar (Amiodarone HCL) may cause adverse effects. Seek medical attention in case you develop loss of appetite, tiredness, nausea, vomiting, shaking, or constipation.
Some side effects of Amiodar (Amiodarone HCL) can be serious. Seek immediate help in the following situations.
- Numbness/tingling of the hands or feet
- Easy bruising/bleeding
- Swelling of the ankle and legs
- Loss of coordination
- Increased shortness of breath
- Slow/fast/Irregular heartbeat

How to use it?
Amiodar 100 mg is available as a tablet. It must be taken by mouth with or without food. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Avoid chewing or crushing it. Take the drug exactly as prescribed by the healthcare specialist. Do not alter the dosing schedule. The recommended starting dose for adult patients is 200 mg thrice daily for 1 week. The dose of the medicine will then be decreased to 200 mg of Amiodar tablets twice daily, and then to 200 mg once daily for one week. Your healthcare professional may then decide to either increase or lower the dose you take daily. For older adults, a lower dose may be given. Also, these patients will be checked for appropriate blood pressure and thyroid function.
Overdose: Seek medical attention immediately in case of an overdose of Amiodarone HCl. The overdose of the medicine may cause the following side effects:
- Slow heartbeat
- Faint or tired
- Confusion
- Damage to the liver
- Feeling dizzy
Do not stop taking the medicine just because you feel better than you did in your previous situation. Stopping the intake of the Amiodar tablet may reverse your improving condition.
Missed dose: If you have forgotten a dose, take it as soon as you remember and resume your usual dosing schedule. If the next dose is due soon, leave the forgotten dose and take the next one. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed dose.
