Angizem 30 mg is prescribed to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). It may be used as a monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensive medicines. The medication is also useful in managing chronic stable angina and angina caused by coronary artery spasms. Diltiazem (a calcium channel blocker) is the main active component of the drug Angizem.
Hypertension (high blood pressure): Angizem is effective in treating mild to moderate hypertension. It is usually given to patients in whom treatment with beta-blockers or diuretics has been ineffective or has been associated with unacceptable side effects. This medication can be tried as a starting medicine in those patients in whom the use of beta-blockers or diuretics is contraindicated or in patients with certain health conditions in which these medications frequently cause serious side effects.
Angina: Diltiazem helps to manage chronic stable angina despite using appropriate doses of beta blockers or organic nitrates or who can’t tolerate these medications. This medicine may be tried along with beta-blocker medicine in chronic stable angina patients with normal ventricular function. In such a scenario where a concomitant treatment is introduced, patients must be closely monitored.
Care must be taken when using Angizem with some other medications. Check with your healthcare expert before using any prescription, nonprescription medicine, vitamins, or herbal supplements while taking Angizem 30mg. This is important, especially if you are taking other medicines, such as cyclosporin, tacrolimus, rifampicin, carbamazepine, cimetidine, and carbamazepine, and medicines for the heart, such as digoxin, amiodarone, and beta blockers.
This is not the complete list of medicines. Let your healthcare specialist know about possible interactions with any over-the-counter medications or recreational substances (alcohol). Alcohol can cause a significant drop in blood pressure, ultimately leading to hypotension.
Those who consume grapefruit or grapefruit juice on a regular basis should be carefully monitored for increased side effects associated with Diltiazem, such as irregular heartbeat, unexplained weight gain, chest pain, headache, and oedema. Grapefruit should be avoided if there is a possibility of interaction.
Also, calcium-containing products may reduce the effectiveness of calcium channel blockers. Monitoring of the effectiveness of calcium channel blocker treatment is advised during coadministration with calcium products. Careful monitoring of the condition is required to identify new onset of diabetes or in patients with diabetes because of an increase in blood glucose levels.
The use of this calcium blocker medicine for elderly patients over 65 years of age requires extra precaution. The incidence of side effects is higher in this population. Those adverse effects that may frequently occur include bradycardia, dizziness, polyuria, palpitation, rash, and peripheral oedema. Therefore, particular care in dose adjustment is advisable.
Like other medicines, side effects can occur while taking Angizem 30 mg. Some of these adverse effects are not serious and will resolve with time or after the dosage has been changed. Others are serious and require immediate medical attention.
Less serious side effects related to this medicine include constipation, stomach discomfort, dizziness, lightheadedness, and a runny or stuffy nose.
Angizem can contribute to lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting, especially when an individual is standing from a sitting or lying position. Getting up slowly when getting out of bed or standing up may help.
More serious side effects associated with the use of Diltiazem may include fast/slow/irregular/pounding heartbeat, unusual tiredness, or weakness. If you develop an allergic reaction, stop the medication and seek immediate medical help. Symptoms include itching, skin rash, swollen mouth or lips, hives, wheezing, and trouble breathing
Take this medicine as your doctor suggests. Angizem is available as a tablet that should be taken on an empty stomach about half to one hour before meals. Tablet administration allows a slow release of the medicine, and it should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. Do not discontinue treatment without speaking to your healthcare professional. Do not chew or crush the tablet.
High blood pressure: The general starting dose ranges from 180 to 240 mg once daily. In some patients, 120 mg a day may be used. The maximum dose should not be used as more than 360 mg a day.
Angina: The dose of the medicine should be individualized. The usual starting dose ranges from 120 mg to 180 mg once a day. The dose may slowly be increased up to 360 mg a day. Make sure you stick to your healthcare provider’s instructions when it comes to taking this medicine.
