Desowen cream .05% (10 gm)
Desowen cream .05% contains the active ingredient desonide, a synthetic corticosteroid for topical dermatologic use. It is indicated for treating mild to moderate atopic dermatitis in patients three months and older. Topical corticosteroids share anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties. Patients should be instructed to use the cream for the minimum time necessary to achieve the desired results or as advised by the dermatologist.
How to use Desowen cream .05%?
Desonide cream .05% should be applied to the affected area as a thin film two to four times daily, depending on the severity of the condition. Like any other corticosteroid, therapy should be discontinued when control is achieved. If no improvement is seen within two weeks, a reassessment of the diagnosis may be required. The topical preparation should not be used with occlusive dressings.
For best effects, the medicine should be used as directed by the doctor. It is for topical use only. Avoid contact with eyes. The topical formulation should not be used for any other condition than that for which it is prescribed. Unless directed by the dermatologist, the treated skin area should not be covered with bandages or dressings. Parents of pediatric patients should be advised not to apply Desowen cream on diaper dermatitis. The topical formulation should not be applied in the diaper area, as diapers or plastic pants may constitute occlusive dressing. Unless advised by the dermatologist, the medication should not be used on the underarm or groin areas of paediatric patients. Patients should inform their dermatologist of any signs of local adverse effects. Other corticosteroid-containing medication should not be used with Desowen cream without consulting the dermatologist.
Like any other corticosteroid therapy, treatment should be discontinued when control is achieved. If no improvement is seen within four weeks, contact the dermatologist.
