Dicorate ER 250 mg is a delayed-release medicine clinically approved for the treatment of mania associated with bipolar disorder (also called manic depression), seizures (epilepsy), and migraine headaches. Bipolar disorder includes episodes of depression or mania. This medicine can also be used to prevent migraines. When it comes to treating seizures, it is used as monotherapy and combination therapy of complex partial seizures as well as simple and complex absence seizures, combination treatment in patients with multiple seizures, including absence seizures. Precautions with Dicrate ER 250 mg
- Dicorate ER is contraindicated in patients allergic to this medicine or any ingredient in this formulation. It should not be used in patients with hepatic disease.
- It should not be given to patients with mitochondrial disorders and children under two years of age who are suspected of having neurodegenerative mitochondrial disease, which causes symptoms including vision loss, neuropathy, seizures, and liver.
- Divalproex is not meant to be used in patients with urea cycle disorders. Its use is also contraindicated in patients with known porphyria.
