Duova inhaler 9/6 mcg is a combination medication indicated for use in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This condition causes difficulty breathing due to the narrowing and blockage of the airways in the lungs. The healthcare specialist prescribes it for the management of bronchial spasm associated with COPD, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis. Inhalation helps patients breathe normally by widening the narrow air passages in the lungs. It is quite effective in relieving symptoms such as constant cough, wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness. The medicine is recommended for patients who are already taking a regular bronchodilator and require an additional bronchodilator to manage their condition.
It is a long-term maintenance treatment composed of two active ingredients: Tiotropium Bromide and Formoterol Fumarate. Formoterol and tiotropium are long-acting bronchodilators with different mechanisms of action. Formoterol is believed to have a rapid onset and a bronchodilator effect lasting approximately 12 hours. In contrast, tiotropium has a 24-hour effect and is administered once daily. Currently, there is no evidence to demonstrate that tiotropium is better than formoterol; however, a combination of tiotropium and formoterol is more effective than using either medicine alone in inducing bronchodilation and associated benefits in patients with COPD. Both medications treat lung malfunction by opening the airways and improving the breathing mechanism. The medicine is an appropriate treatment where a single medication has not been sufficiently effective.
