Enzamide 40 mg is a prescription drug for men with prostate cancer who stop responding to a hormone therapy or surgical treatment to decrease the levels of testosterone. It treats prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body and responds to hormonal therapy or surgery to reduce the level of testosterone. It can also be given to treat cancer of the prostate that has not spread to other body parts and responds to a hormone treatment or surgery to lower testosterone, and who are more likely to develop cancer spreading to other body parts.
The active ingredient of the medicine is Enzalutamide, which acts by restricting the action of hormones called androgens (such as testosterone). By blocking the effects of androgen hormones, Enzalutamide ceases the growth of cancer cells and prevents them from dividing.
Enzamide 40mg may cause harm to the fetus or potential loss of pregnancy if taken by pregnant women. It is not known whether the anticancer medication is present in semen. A condom and another form of contraceptive must be used during and for three months after treatment with Enzamide if the patient is involved in sexual activity with a pregnant partner. The prostate cancer medication is not for use in women. It is contraindicated in women who are or may become pregnant. The medication has a moderate influence on the ability to drive and use complex machinery, as seizures have been reported. The medicine is not recommended for use in children and adolescents.
