Exetu or Exemestane is an effective prescription medicine to treat certain types of breast cancer (such as hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer) in women after menopause. Usually, this medicine is prescribed to those women who have already received a cancer medication called tamoxifen. It is advised that patients talk with their doctor about the benefits and risk factors associated with Exetu before using it. Exetu 25mg is available in tablet form. Exemestane is the main active component of the drug.
What is Exemestane?
Exemestane is an important pharmaceutical formulation that uses 25 mg of exemestane agent, a substance that belongs to the third-generation aromatase inhibitors. Its properties have the potential to strengthen a critical intervention required to manage hormone-responsive breast cancers for postmenopausal women. Exetu is often recommended to patients with certain medical conditions, like premenopausal women taking adjuvant therapy after ovarian surgery and women looking for the prevention of breast cancer. In fact, Exetu 25mg tablet is used in combination with medical therapy for cancer prevention so that the risk of the reversal of this condition remains minimal.
How does Exemestane work?
Exemestane is a classified drug as an aromatase inhibitor that works by lowering estrogen levels in the body. This function can further slow down the growth of certain types of breast tumors that require estrogen to grow. Exetu can extensively interfere with the production of estrogen. Therefore, the amount of estrogen the tumor is exposed to is reduced, slowing the growth of the tumor.
Women who are expecting pregnancy or breastfeeding should tell their doctor about the condition before taking Exetu 25mg tablets. Users should confirm postmenopausal status clinically (LH, FSH, estradiol levels). This medicine may decrease alertness and affect your vision, so do not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery immediately after taking this medicine. Monitoring bone mineral density (BMD) at baseline and periodically is important for women living with existing osteopenia/osteoporosis during the medication course. You should not take this medicine if you are allergic to the main active ingredient or any other component of the drug.
Women with Vitamin D deficiency should take its supplements, and women with premenopausal endocrine status, after being asserted by a medical test, should avoid Exetu tablets. If you missed a regular dose of Exetu 25mg, take it as soon as you remember. However, if you are scheduled to take the next dose in the next 4-5 hours, skip the missed dose and take only one dose next time.
There are some possible side effects with Exemestane Exetu 25mg tablet.
