Ezedoc 10mg is prescribed to lower cholesterol levels in patients who are at high risk of getting heart disease or a stroke. Ezedoc is used alone or with other drugs to reduce levels of bad cholesterol (LDL cholesterol) and triglycerides, and to raise levels of good cholesterol (HDL cholesterol). It is recommended for patients who cannot control their cholesterol levels with diet alone. LDL (Low-density lipoprotein) is often called "bad cholesterol" because it can accumulate in arterial walls, leading to plaque buildup. Over time, this buildup can narrow the arteries. Narrowed arteries can slow or block blood flow to the heart and brain. The blocked blood flow can result in a heart attack or a stroke. HDL (high-density lipoprotein), also known as good cholesterol, helps prevent the buildup of bad cholesterol in the arteries and protects against heart disease. Triglycerides are the fatty substances in your blood that may increase the risk of heart disease.

The active ingredient of the medication is Ezetimibe, which works by lowering the cholesterol in your digestive tract. The cholesterol-lowering medicine is meant to help you lose weight. Ezedoc enhances the cholesterol-lowering effects of statins, a class of medicines that reduce the cholesterol your body produces. It is especially designed for patients who cannot control their cholesterol levels solely through diet. However, it is important to stick to a cholesterol-lowering diet while taking this medication. The medicine reduces the amount of cholesterol that your body absorbs. It does not help you lose weight. Ezetimibe is usually added to your cholesterol-lowering diet if you have elevated blood cholesterol levels (primary hypercholesterolaemia) and a hereditary condition that increases cholesterol levels in the bloodstream. You will also be provided with a statin medication and will receive other treatments. If you are suffering from heart disease, Ezetimibe formulation combined with cholesterol-lowering medicines like statins reduces the risk of heart attack, surgery to increase blood flow to the heart, or a hospital visit for chest pain.

The effect of Ezedoc 10mg may be decreased by cholestyramine or other bile acid sequestrants. Coadministration of fibrates with Ezetimibe may increase the risk of cholelithiasis. When used with HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, the medicine may increase the risk of rhabdomyolysis. Ezetimibe should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to Ezetimibe or any other ingredients of the medication. It is not meant for use in patients with acute liver disease. It is not suitable for patients with moderate or severe hepatic impairment. The medicine is not meant for pregnant women. It may cause fetal harm by interfering with cholesterol synthesis. Tell your healthcare specialist about any prescription or non-prescription medications you are taking. These may even include natural or herbal remedies. Also, your doctor should know in case any of the following applies to you:

  • If you are pregnant or planning to conceive. Your doctor will discuss whether Ezedoc is appropriate for you.
  • If you are breastfeeding, it is still not known whether Ezetimibe can pass into your baby's bloodstream through your milk.
  • If you have or are experiencing unexplained tenderness, muscle pain or weakness.
