Foseal 800mg

Foseal 800mg is an effective treatment for patients with chronic kidney disease who are on dialysis. It helps to manage increased phosphate levels in the blood. Sevelamer is the active ingredient in the medicine which helps to control phosphorus levels in people with kidney diseases who are undergoing dialysis. Sevelamer bind to phosphorus that we get from foods and prevents it from being absorbed into your blood. The safety and efficacy of the medicine have not been studied in people with kidney disease who are not on dialysis.

Clinical Uses of Foseal 800 mg

Foseal is indicated for lowering the high levels of phosphorus in patients who are undergoing dialysis due to severe kidney disease. Dialysis can help reduce some amount of phosphorus from your blood, but it is unable to keep your phosphate levels balanced. The medicine contains the active ingredient Sevelamer, which inhibits the absorption of phosphate from the intestine and decreases the blood phosphate levels.

Usage Information

Take this medicine orally as told by your physician. Usually, it is taken thrice a day with meals. The dose and duration of medication are based medical condition, any other drugs you take to drop phosphate levels and of course your response to the treatment. In children, the dosage of Foseal is based on pediatric’s body weight. Take the tablet regularly to get the best results. Remember to take the tablet three times a day or according to the schedule given by your physician.

Possible Side Effects

The Foseal 800 mg tablet can result in certain side effects which disappear with time, and these include nausea, vomiting, gas, indigestion, constipation, and slight stomach pain. Some serious reported side effects of the medicine include severe illness and the problem with swallowing. In case the side effects persist for a longer duration, or you experience any other unwanted effect, be sure to tell your physician as soon as possible.

Important Information

Foseal 400 mg tablets are not recommended for pregnant women unless needed. Before taking medicine, risk and benefits should be discussed with the physician. Also, breastfeeding women should not begin taking Sevelamer tablet without consulting their physician.

Drug Interactions

The use of Foseal tablets with Ciprofloxacin, levothyroxine, tacrolimus, ciclosporin, and tacrolimus.  may decrease the effectiveness of these medicines. It is recommended to take Sevelamer medicine three hours before or one hour after taking other medication to minimize the potential side effects. However, it is wise to first talk to a physician before starting a new treatment.
