Halovate CR 0.05% is supplied as a cream for topical dermatological use. It is useful for treating a variety of skin disorders, including rashes, dermatitis, allergies, eczema, psoriasis, and pruritus. Its application reduces itching, redness, and swelling associated with the above skin disorders. Halovate CR is effective in managing inflammation and pruritus associated with allergic skin problems. It comprises an active component, Halobetasol, a synthetic corticosteroid used topically as an antipruritic and anti-inflammatory agent. It is still not known how Halobetasol works, but it is thought that the active ingredient affects certain proteins in the body that help to reduce inflammation. Reducing inflammation helps reduce redness, itching, and skin swelling. It can also be prescribed to you for other purposes not mentioned in this document.

Certain medications can interact with Halovate CR. These include prednisone and closporine. The use of Halovate CR is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Halobetasol or any other active ingredient in the formulation. It should not be used in patients who have known intolerance to corticosteroids. The medicine is not suitable for patients with untreated bacterial (tuberculosis or syphilis)or viral infections (chicken pox or herpes)

Use it cautiously in the following conditions:

  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Glaucoma
  • Hepatic dysfunction
  • Growth suppression in children
  • Pre-existing skin atrophy
  • Tuberculosis
  • Cataracts
  • Pregnancy
  • Lactation

Covering the treated skin area can increase the amount of medicine absorbed through your skin. This may make you more likely to develop adrenal gland problems. You should avoid covering the treated skin areas with a bandage or clothing unless instructed by your dermatologist. Using a Halobetasol formulation for a longer duration may cause skin thinning. If you develop skin thinning, speak to your dermatologist. It is not known if the topical formulation affects your fertility. Discuss with your dermatologist whether this is a concern for you.

This topical medication is not recommended for people under 18 years of age. Children and adolescents can absorb large amounts of topical medication through the skin and may be at an increased risk of developing serious side effects.

Also, keep the medication out of the reach of children and pets.

How to use Halovate CR? (infographics and instructions)

  • The amount of medicine to be used depends on the site and type of lesions. The cream is preferred for application to oozing or intertriginous areas. Apply it sparingly as a thin film to clean and moist skin. Apply the cream twice daily as advised by your dermatologist. Rub in gently and completely into the skin. Once your skin is improved, you may be advised to stop the treatment. The topical treatment is to be limited to weeks, and amounts greater than 50g/wk should not be used. As with other corticosteroid formulations, treatment should be discontinued when adequate control is achieved. If there is no improvement within two weeks, reassessment of the diagnosis may be required.
  • Do not apply the cream to normal, unaffected skin areas or to broken skin, such as open sores, wounds, or ulcers.
  • Avoid applying the product to or around your eyes, nose, mouth, or other mucous membranes.
  • The assessment of affected skin should be performed regularly before and during treatment. The degree of inflammation and pruritus should be assessed. Immediately notify your physician if symptoms of infection, including erythema, purulent exudates, and increased pain, develop.
  • Halovate CR cream should not be used with occlusive dressings.
  • Patients are instructed to use the correct technique of medication administration. It is important to avoid the eyes during the application. Women are advised not to use it extensively or in large amounts. Its excess use can have serious consequences. In case you suspect an overdose, seek immediate medical help.
  • Make sure that you inform your physician if symptoms of an underlying problem return or worsen, or if symptoms of an infection occur.
  • A decrease in the number of inflammatory lesions should be noticed after the prescribed period. If your condition still does not improve after the given time, call your physician.

If a dose of Halovate CR is missed, it should be applied as soon as remembered, unless it's almost time for the next dose. Patients are advised to use only as directed. Do not double-up your application to cover a missed application.
