Januvia 100 mg is a prescription antidiabetic medicine used to lower the blood sugar level in people suffering from Type 2 diabetes. It contains the active substance Sitagliptin, which belongs to a class of drugs known as DPP-4 inhibitors. The class of medicine effectively reduces blood sugar, which is too high because of your Type 2 diabetes. Your doctor may prescribe this Sitagliptin preparation alone or in combination with some certain other antidiabetic agents such as metformin, insulin, glitazones, or sulphonylureas. In general, the dose usually depends on individual’s body’s requirement. However, it is always important to follow the medicinal treatment with diet and exercise plan. In Type 2 diabetes, patient’s body do not make enough insulin or when the insulin that your body produces does not work the way it should. Your body can also form too much sugar. This cause builds up of sugar in the blood which may lead to serious health complications like kidney disease, blindness, amputation and heart disease.

Do not take Januvia 100 mg if you are allergic to Sitagliptin or any of the active constituents of the medicine. If you develop blistering of the skin as it may be a sin of a condition called bullous pemphigoid, you should immediately stop taking Sitagliptin preparation. Also, let your doctor if you have or have ever had a disease of pancreas, gallstones kidney problems, alcohol dependence or very high levels of triglycerides.

Side effects of Januvia 100 mg

Stop taking Januvia and speak to your doctor straight away if you notice any unwanted effect associated with the use of Sitagliptin. Look out for persistent pain in the abdomen which might reach to you through to your back with or without nausea and vomiting. Common side effects of the medicine are low blood pressure, flatulence, nausea, and vomiting.  Other side effects include diarrheal, stomachache, drowsiness, and constipation. Some patients may experience different types of stomach discomfort when starting a combination drug including metformin and sitagliptin. People taking sitagliptin in combination with a sulfonylurea and metformin may experience low blood sugar and constipation. If you develop any of these side effects, talk to your doctor straight away. Rarely, this oral anti-diabetic agent can cause hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar) because it does not work when your blood sugar is low.  

Always take Januvia 1000 mg exactly as your doctor advised you. You must check with your doctor if you are not sure about how and when to use the medicine.

The recommended dose of Januvia 100 mg once daily. You can take it before or after consuming food. Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems as your doctor may prescribe lower dose. If you have kidney disease, please let your doctor know as such patients may need a lower dose. Your doctor may ask you to take it before or after consuming food. Diet and exercise can help your body use more efficiently, therefore it is important to follow a strict diet regimen and exercise recommended by the doctor during the entire treatment.
