Januvia 100 mg contains the active ingredient Sitagliptin, which reduces blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disorder in which your body stops making enough insulin hormone, and the hormone that your body releases does not work the way it should. Your body can also make an excessive amount of sugar, which builds up in the blood, leading to serious health problems like kidney disorders, blindness, heart disease and amputation.
Sitagliptin effectively increases the levels of the insulin hormone produced after meals and reduces the amount of sugar produced by the body. The medicine is unlikely to cause hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar). It is recommended in combination with a diet and exercise to help control blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. One of the commonly reported side effects associated with Januvia 100 mg is a headache. However, the adverse effect is mild and temporary. Very low blood sugar (Hypoglycaemia) is also a possible side effect when you are taking other medicines such as sulfonylurea and insulin. How to use Januvia 100mg?
The usual recommended dose of Januvia is 100 mg once daily. The tablet can be taken without regard to food. It should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. The tablet should not be chewed, split or crushed. If you have a kidney problem, you may be recommended with the lowest dose. Diet and exercise can help your body utilise blood sugar more effectively. Therefore, it is extremely important to follow a diet and exercise regimen recommended by your healthcare specialist while taking Januvia.
