Megapen Capsule is a combination of two drugs- ampicillin and cloxacillin in 250 mg each. This medicine is an antibiotic drug that is taken to combat bacterial infections. Megapen Capsules 250?mg is actually a semi-synthetic derivative of penicillin which is used to diagnose various infections like urinary tract infections, respiratory infections or bronchitis, infections of the stomach or intestines, lung and skin infections, pneumonia, meningitis, or gonorrhea. Megapen -XP is beta-lactam antibiotic medicine prescribed for some specific bacterial infections.

What does Megapen Capsule contain?

Megapen capsule has two main active ingredients ampicillin (250mg) and cloxacillin (250mg). Both ingredients have antibiotic properties.

 How does Megapen capsule work?

Megapen Capsule has two antibiotics Ampicillin and Cloxacillin that can prevent the formation of the bacterial protective layer or synthesis of the bacterial cells wall that plays the main role in the survival of bacteria. Both of the ingredients can effectively treat your infection. This medicine works against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Side effects of Megapen capsules

There are some possible side effects of Megapen capsules that include:

• Upset stomach or acidity
• Allergic reaction
• Diarrhea or loose stools
• Rash
• Nausea
• Vaginal yeast infection in women
• Itching or discharge

Some rare but serious effects of Megapen Capsules 250?mg include easy bruising or bleeding, persistent sore throat, dark urine, abdominal pain, jaundice, and fever.

 How to take Megapen capsules:

Patients should take Megapen capsules as directed by a doctor. Take it at regular intervals without missing a dose. You have to complete the medication course of antibiotics as prescribed by a physician. Usually, Ampicillin is taken on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. You have to swallow the whole capsule with a little amount of water.  

 Dosage instruction:    

Take the dosage of Megapen Capsules 250?mg as prescribed by your doctor. Usually, the dosage of this medicine depends on your age and the severity condition of the bacteria that cause infection. It is taken usually 4 times a day every 6 hours, or as directed by a doctor. Don’t take an overdose of this medicine.

 Precautions:

Immediately contact your doctor if you experience any allergic reactions rendering the conditions like rashes, breathlessness, swollen skin, mouth or eyes. Avoid the intake of Megapen Capsules if you are allergic to cephalosporin antibiotics such as cefaclor, cefalexin or cefuroxime.
