Monocef 1g is a prescription antibiotic injection formulated with Ceftriaxone, used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections, including those that require rapid medical attention. It is indicated for respiratory infections (especially pneumonia), ENT infections, urinary infections, sepsis, meningitis, bone and joint infections, skin and soft-tissue infections, intra-abdominal infections, and reproductive tract infections, including gonorrhoea. Monocef injection may also be used in case of bacterial endocarditis (an infection of the heart’s inner valves) and for the treatment of acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in adults.

The active ingredient in the medicine Ceftriaxone is an antibiotic that targets bacteria by blocking the formation of the cell wall, which is required for bacterial survival. Without the cell wall support, the bacteria weaken, rupture, and ultimately die.

Precautions Monocef 1g

Monocef injection is not recommended for individuals with a history of cephalosporin allergy. It is contraindicated if you have a sudden or severe allergic reaction to penicillin or similar antibiotics, like cephalosporins. The signs of a severe allergic reaction include swelling of the face or throat, which makes it tough to breathe or swallow; sudden swelling of the hands, ankles, and feet; a severe rash; and chest pain. Patients with liver or kidney disorders should exercise caution. The injectable drug should be used carefully in children under the care of a paediatrician. It must not be given to babies if the baby is premature, newborn up to 28 days and has certain types of blood-related problems or jaundice.

Inform your doctor if you are allergic to lidocaine when you are to be given Ceftriaxone injection intramuscularly. Your doctor should also know if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking other medications. Caution is advised if you have recently received products containing calcium. Patients with liver disease, a kidney disorder, gallstones, anaemia, inflammation of the bowel or who are on a low-sodium diet should inform the doctor about their condition. Also, let him know if you are taking antibiotics such as aminoglycosides or chloramphenicol.

How to use Monocef 1g

Monocef 1g can be given intravenously or intramuscularly, depending on the patient’s requirements. The dose and duration of Monocef 1 g may vary from person to person and are usually based on the type of infection, its severity, the patient’s age, weight, and kidney and liver function. It must be administered strictly under the guidance of a healthcare specialist. The healthcare professional will mix the powder with sterile water or an appropriate diluent and administer via intravenous or intramuscular infusion. The number of days or weeks you are advised to receive Monocef injection usually depends on the type of infection you have.
