Nodict 50 mg is formulated for the management of opioid dependence. It is used in combination with other medicines or therapy to help manage alcohol dependence. The medicine is available only with a prescription from a healthcare specialist. It is indicated as supportive treatment in maintaining self-denial in alcohol dependent patients. Nodict is a medication that helps people overcome drug addiction or alcoholism. It is formulated to beat addiction as well as stop alcohol consumption and help an individual to get through those hard times. This medication is given along with behavioural modification, counselling, and support. Its regular intake decreases the cravings that your body has for both drugs and alcohol. The medicine reduces the pleasure that an individual (addict) receives after consuming alcohol and illegal drugs.

The active component of the medicine is Naltrexone hydrochloride, which stops the effects of illegal drugs like heroin, oxycodone, and morphine in the brain and reduces the intoxicating effects. It works by completely blocking the effect of opioids, including respiratory and central nervous system depression, without producing opioid like effects. The medicinal ingredient effectively eliminates drug or alcohol seeking behaviour and prevents relapse.

Nodict 50 mg may prevent the therapeutic effects of antidiarrheals, antitussives, and opioid analgesics. If used along with thioridazine, it may increase central nervous depression. A patient should not take Nodict 50 mg if they are allergic to any of its ingredients. Do not take Naloxone if the patient experiences withdrawal symptoms after naloxone hydrochloride administration. Concurrent use of acute opioid withdrawal, opioid analgesics or physiologic opioid dependence is contraindicated.

Naltrexone should not be used in children and adolescents under 18 years of age, as there is no adequate research data in this age group. Safe use of this medication has not been established in children. The safety of Nodict tablets during pregnancy has not been demonstrated. It is unknown if the medication is excreted in breast milk. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your healthcare specialist for advice before taking this medication. The medicine used for addiction disorders may impair the mental or physical abilities required for the performance of potentially hazardous activities such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery. You should not take Nodict tablets if you are continuously using a medicinal product containing an opioid, for example, medicines to treat diarrhoea (morphine and kaolin), cough medicines, and analgesics (pain killers). There is inadequate data on the safety and effectiveness of Nodict for the indication in elderly patients.

Exercise caution while taking this medication in the following conditions:

  • An acute liver function test, or if your liver function is poor
  • History of depression or suicidal behaviour
  • Moderate to severe kidney disease

The possible side effects of Nodict 50 mg include:

How to use

Take it as directed by your health care specialist. Notify that there are potentially serious consequences if they try to overcome the effects of Nodict with higher doses of opioids. This may even lead to the death of a patient.

Opioid dependence

The initial dose of Nodict is 25 mg. In case opioid withdrawal abstinence does not occur within one hour, an additional dose of 25 mg may be given.

Alcohol dependence

The recommended dose is 50 mg once daily unless your healthcare specialist has prescribed a different dose. The tablets are taken orally with a small amount of liquid. Before starting this medication, you must not have used any other opiates for about 7 to 10 days. Your healthcare specialist may conduct a test to establish whether you are clear of this medication before you initiate the treatment. Generally, treatment may begin with half a tablet (25mg) once daily, later increased to 1 tablet (50 mg) once daily.                                                                                                                                                                      Take medicine in combination with a comprehensive alcohol or drug program. Patients should not actively drink or consume illegal drugs during the treatment. Treatment should be continued as long as the patient continues to benefit or as prescribed by the healthcare specialist. Do not stop the treatment otherwise; you will not get rid of alcohol or drug dependence. If you are taking Nodict 50 mg regularly and miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, with a meal and a large glass of water. The missed dose should not be taken if the next dose is approaching. Do not take a double dose to make up for any missed dose.
