Olmezest H 40/12.5 mg tablet is a fixed-dose combination of Olmesartan Medoxomil 40 mg and Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg as active pharmaceutical ingredients. Combining these two drugs makes this hypertensive medicine more effective and shows good results in treating high blood pressure more rapidly and effectively. It is usually prescribed to those patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by olmesartan medoxomil alone. Olmesartan Medoxomil is an angiotensin receptor blocker that lowers blood pressure by relaxing and widening the blood vessels, enhances the blood flow and oxygen to the heart, also lowers the aldosterone level (excess aldosterone leads to salt and water retention in the body, and raises the blood pressure). Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that causes the kidney to eliminate unneeded water and salt from the body by increasing urine output. It thus helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.
A pregnant or breastfeeding mother should not take this medicine without consulting the doctor. While on this medication, do not drive or use machinery that requires your complete attention, as it can make you dizzy. Olmezest H can cause dehydration; remember to increase your fluid and water intake and seek immediate medical help if you experience dry mouth, muscle weakness, or other dehydration-related symptoms. Always discuss your past medical condition with your health care provider if you have any allergy, diabetes, kidney, heart, or liver-related problems or if you are taking any medicines at present before taking this medicine. Avoid alcohol consumption during the treatment because alcohol consumption can cause worsening of side effects.
Although this combination medicine is safe to use under medical supervision and does not show such side effects, it seeks medical attention. But it is important to discuss with your healthcare provider if any of these become bothersome:

You can take Olmezest H 40/12.5 mg tablet orally with water as your doctor prescribes after or before a meal. Avoid chewing or crushing the tablet; swallow it whole. Take it four hours before bedtime as it increases the urine output. Do not discontinue treatment even if you feel better without consulting your doctor.
