Cadiceft – 1gm injection contains the active constituent Ceftriaxone sodium. Its generic name is rocephine. It is an antibacterial drug used to treat conditions for example lower respiratory tract infections, skin and skin structure infections, urinary tract infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, bacterial septicemia, bone and joint infections, and meningitis. Common side effects of Ceftriaxone include nausea, vomiting, rash, diarrhea, upset stomach, blood clots, dizziness, headache, swelling or pain in your tongue, a lump where the medicine was injected, sweating, or vaginal itching or discharge. What is Cadiceft used for?

Cadiceft 1 mg is used in treatment of infections caused by bacteria’s such as: bone and joint infection, benign gastric, Bacteremia, duodenal or NSAID-associated ulceration, chancroid, gonococcal infections, enteric fever, meningitis, pneumonia, lower respiratory tract infections, prophylaxis of cardiac transplant rejection, prophylaxis of hepatic transplant rejection, septicaemia.

It may also be used in the treatment to Prevent Bacterial Infection of a Heart Valve, Pediatric Fever without a Source, Sexual Transmitted Disease Exposure from Sexual Assault.

Cadiceft may also be used for other purposes not listed here.

How does Cadiceft works?

Cadiceft 1 mg contains the active ingredient Ceftriaxone sodium. It acts by inhibiting the mucopeptide synthesis in the bacterial cell walls. The beta-lactam moiety of Ceftriaxone binds to endopeptidases, carboxypeptidases, and transpeptidases in the bacterial cytoplasmic membrane. These enzymes are involved in cell-wall synthesis and cell division. By binding to these enzymes, Ceftriaxone results in the development of defective cell walls and cell death of the bacteria.

• sudden weakness or ill feeling, chills, cold or flu symptoms, mouth sores, fever
• pale or yellowed skin colour, dark coloured urine
• rigorous pain in your upper stomach that comes and goes or spreads to your back
• a blood cell disorder - skin rash or tight feeling, severe tingling or numbness, pain, muscle weakness, muscle pain
• kidney or bladder problems - pain in your side or lower back spreading to your groin, blood in your urine, painful or difficult urination, little or no urine
• severe skin reaction - sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face) and causes blistering and peeling

• warmth, or a hard lump feeling where the injection was given

What medications interact with Cadiceft ?

There are not such evidence that cadiceft 1 mg interact with other medication but other medicines may interact with cadiceft injection, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Talk to your health care specialist about all medicines you use now and any medicine you stop using or start.

When should Cadiceft not be used?

Don’t use Cadiceft injection 1 mg in a child without a health care specialist advice, and never give more than the child's approved dose. Cadiceft injection can be dangerous when given to a newborn baby with any intravenous medicines that contain calcium, including total parental nutrition (TPN). Cadiceft under no circumstances should be used in a premature baby, or in any new-born baby those suffering from jaundice.

You should not use cadiceft if you are allergic to ceftriaxone or to other cephalosporin antibiotics, such as:

• a stomach or intestinal disorder
• a condition for which you take a blood thinner (Jantoven, warfarin, Coumadin)

This medication is not expected to harm an unborn baby. Tell your health care specialist if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.

Active constituent of this medication ceftriaxone can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Tell your health care specialist if you are breast-feeding a baby.

How should Cadiceft be used?

Use Cadiceft injection 1 mg exactly as prescribed by your health care specialist. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Don’t use this medicine in smaller or larger amounts or for longer time than suggested.

Cadiceft is injected into a muscle, or into a vein through an IV. You may be shown how to use an IV at home. Attention don’t give yourself this medicine if you do not understand how to use the injection and properly dispose of needles, IV tubing, and other items used.

Missed dose of cadiceft -1gm

Use the medication as soon as you remember the missed dose. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and use the medicine at your next regularly scheduled time. Do not use extra medicine to make up the missed dose. Talk with your health care specialist for further suggestions.

How should Cadiceft be stored?
