Oxitan 50mg/10ml

Oxitan 50mg containing Oxaliplatin is an anticancer medicine. Oxaliplatin, in combination with infusional 5-fluorouracil/leucovorin, is approved for the treatment of advanced-stage colorectal carcinoma. It may also effectively treat breast, non-small cell lung cancer, ovarian, germ cells, and pancreatic cancers. Anticancer medicine comes in the form of injection. It works by stopping or slowing down the growth of cancer cells in the rectum and the colon.

How to use (Infographics and instructions)

The treatment program may include several medicines for your cancer. You should follow the doctor’s instructions carefully while using the medicine. Some medicines may be given to you before Oxitan to help prevent nausea and vomiting. Oxaliplatin is usually given with two other chemotherapy drugs, Leucovorin and 5 fluorouracil. Each treatment regimen is given to you over two days. Your doctor will administer it on the first day only. Usually, there are two weeks between each chemotherapy treatment curse.

  • Treatment 1- Oxitan and Leucovorin are administered through a thin plastic tube put into a vein and given for two hours. Your doctor will monitor you during this time.

After Oxitan and Leucovorin are finished, two doses of 5 fluorouracil will be administered.   The first dose is administered right away into your vein. The second will be administered into your vein over the next 22 using a pump device.

  • Treatment 2- Your doctor will not give Oxiplatin on Day 2. 5-fluorouracil and Leucovorin will be administered the same way on Day 1.

It is important to follow the treatment regimen prescribed by your doctor and keep up with all appointments. Inform your doctor if you miss an appointment. There may be special instructions for you that you need to follow. Your doctor will decide how many times you will get Oxaliplatin. One of the chemotherapy drugs, 5-fluorouracil, will be given intravenously with a pump. If you have problems using the pump or the tube, please talk to your doctor.
