Propecia 1mg is a prescription drug for increasing the hair growth on the scalp and for prevention of hair loss in men. It is useful in treating hair loss problem in men only.Propecia tablet is a one a day pill treatment for people suffering for people suffering from male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia). Male pattern hair loss occurs when the hairline recedes, and hair thins at the temples and crown. It has been shown that the condition is hereditary and affects around 50% of the males aged 50 years or older. However, the condition begins to develop in some males in their 20s and become more common with age.
Male pattern baldness is believed to be caused by a combination of hereditary and production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) (a male hormone). Men with male pattern hair loss have found to have more of this DHT hormone in the balding region as compared to other parts, resulting in increased hair loss in men.
Working of Propecia
As mentioned above, DHT contributes to hair loss problem in men. The male hormone is produced in the adrenal gland, testicles, prostate gland, and hair follicles. DHT is derived from testosterone (male sex hormone). The enzyme 5 alpha reductase converts the sex hormone to DHT. In people with androgenic alopecia, DHT adheres to receptors in hair follicles on the scalp. DHT acts on the hair follicle, and as a result of this, these hair follicles shrink and loses their ability to grow healthy. This causes thinning of hairline and man starts losing his hair in a pattern.
Most people using propecia experience decrease sexual health as a side effect. Although they are no clear links between Propecia use and sexual adverse effects, have been established. The active component of the medicine is finasteride, which is thought to suppress the level of DHT in the body. DHT plays a vital role in sexual development. The sexual side effects include decrease libido, ejaculation disorder, and erectile dysfunction.
These side effects are more likely to occur in younger men. Several side effects have been found to disappear once the treatment is stopped, while other may persist for a long time and continue to affect the patient for several months or even years. They do not go away without getting a treatment done. In some cases, the sexual function never returns to normal; the sexual dysfunction remains for a lifetime.
