R-Cin 600 mg (Rifampicin)

R-Cin comprises of an active component Rifampicin, which falls into the category of drugs known as antibacterial. It has been formulated to treat patients with bacterial infections including tuberculosis and meningitis. It is advised to take R-Cin only if you have been in direct contact with individuals with meningitis and have not yet developed the disease.

Note that the medicine has lactose if you have been told by your health care professional that you cannot tolerate some sugars, discuss with him/her before starting the treatment.

What is R-Cin used for?

Do not drink alcohol while taking Rifampicin. There is a possibility of developing hepatotoxicity in patients who are consuming alcohol during the treatment. Therefore, patients are advised to limit alcohol consumption or completely stop the consumption to get most benefits out of the medicine.

When should R-Cin not be used?

  • Do not R-Cin 600 mg if you are hypersensitive to it or its other ingredients.
  • Avoid taking it if you have jaundice (yellowing of eyes and skin).

Exercise caution while using your antibiotic medicine in the conditions that are given below:

  • Pregnancy
  • Lactation
  • Hepatic impairment
  • Renal insufficiency
  • Diabetes mellitus

How should R-Cin be taken?

Tuberculosis:

For adults- the suggested dose is 600 mg daily or 10 mg/kg daily (up to 600 mg daily) single dose. It may also administer twice weekly.

To treat children and infants- The usually prescribed dose is 10 to 20 mg/kg daily dose. Do not take more than 600 mg daily. It may also administer twice weekly.

Meningococcus bacteria:

To treat adults- the suggested dose is 600 mg q 12 hr fro two days.

For the treatment of children- The suggested dose is 10 m/kg q 12 hr for two days. Do not take more than 600 mg/dose.

For the treatment of infants- The suggested dose is 5 mg/kg for two days.

How long should R-Cin be taken?

The medicine must take as prescribed by the health care specialist. You are not supposed to alter the dosing schedule.

Missed dose of R-Cin

A double dose or an overdose can cause a resistant to bacteria. Therefore, it is important to take the dose as instructed by your heath care specialist. If you miss a dose, take it whenever you remember, otherwise, take the next dose on the next day. You can also consult your health care professional and discuss the same.

How to store R-Cin?

  • Store the medicine away from heat and light
  • Avoid refrigerating it
  • Keep it at a place where children and pets cannot reach.
