Ramistar H 5/12.5mg
Ramistar H 5/12.5 mg is a combination of Ramipril and Hydrochlorothiazide, categorized under the class of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and diuretics, respectively.
It is effective in treating essential hypertension. Ramipril lowers high blood pressure by blocking a natural substance that tightens your blood vessels. It causes these blood vessels to relax and therefore helps reduce high blood pressure. Whereas hydrochlorothiazide increases the amount of urine passed out from the kidneys. It is useful in reducing excessive amounts of fluid in the body and treats oedema (swelling) related to the liver, kidney, and heart. This causes a significant reduction in the heart’s workload, allowing the heart to pump blood more efficiently. These drugs lower high blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke. However, Ramistar is not a cure for hypertension, but it does help to control it.
How to use
Always take Ramistar H, as instructed by your doctor. Generally, it can be taken before or after consuming food. Swallow the pill whole without chewing or crushing it. In children, the dose is generally prescribed as per the body weight.
Precautions
Before taking Ramistar H 5/12.5 mg, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Also, let him know if you have any problems associated with lung, kidney, or heart problems and other medical conditions such as glaucoma, gout, myopia, parathyroid disease, or collagen vascular disease.
This combination drug is not recommended for use in children and adolescents less than 18 years of age. If you are using any other medicinal product for other conditions or have a history of allergy, immediately inform your doctor, as it may prevent drug-related interaction and serious side effects. Ramistar H may interact with other diuretics, anti-hypertensive agents, antiepileptic drugs, antidepressants, antigout drugs, painkillers, immune-suppressing drugs, birth control pills, potassium supplements, anti-diabetic agents, and immune system-affecting drugs.
Side effects
Nausea, taste change, nausea, and diarrhoea are common side effects of Ramistar H. Talk to your doctor if any of these bother you, worsen, or resolve independently. Also, inform him if your cough and throat irritation that does not go away. Drink adequate fluids while taking the medicine to overcome dry mouth, extreme thirst, and muscle weakness. A significant drop in blood pressure may cause dizziness, but this improves with time.
