Sevista 30 mg contains the active ingredient Centchroman, a selective estrogen receptor modulator acts on estrogen receptors in the body to either suppress or stimulate the receptors. Besides its use as a safe contraceptive for long term use, the medicine has also shown to be effective in treating osteoporosis, pre-menstrual syndrome, and dysfunctional uterine bleeding as well as a medicine for lowering lipid levels in blood.

What is Sevista used for?

Sevista 30mg is an excellent pregnancy protection available in the form of tablet for oral administration. According to clinical studies, the tablet could safely be taken by lactating mothers. It maintains normal ovulatory cycle as it has no effect on the HPO axis. The medicine is free from adverse effects that are commonly associated with the steroidal contraceptives like dizziness, breast tenderness, hiruitism, break through bleeding, nausea, or vomiting.

How does Sevista work?

All contraceptives act by interfering with the following events:

  • Production of sperm and ovum
  • Fertilization or fusion of sperm and ovum
  • Implantation of fertilized ovum to inner lining of uterus

Sevista 30 mg prevents implantation by blocking the estrogens in the uterus that results in alteration of the uterus lining.

What medications interact with Sevista?

You are advised to share in advance your physician, the list of drugs that you may be consuming, especially other contraceptive pills.

When should Sevista not be used?

The medicine should not be used in the following conditions:

  • Cervical hyperplasia
  • Severe allergic reactions or chronic illness such as renal diseases, tuberculosis, etc.
  • Polycystic ovarian disease
  • Recent background of clinical evidence of jaundice or liver disease.

How should Sevista be taken?

The recommended dose of Sevista is one tablet of 30 mg twice a week for three months. For example- if you consume the first pill on Sunday, take the second one on Wednesday.  Now from fourth month, you need to take one pill once a week as long as you don’t want to get pregnant.

Remember, the first tablet should be taken on the first day of the menstrual cycle.

 

How long should you use Sevista?

Take it as long as you wish to prevent pregnancy or as recommended by your physician. Always complete the prescribed amount to prevent pregnancy. Never change the dose, take it as per physician’s direction.

Missed dose of Sevista?

If you have missed taking a tablet on the scheduled day, take it as soon as you remember. If you forget your dosage by one or two days, but lesser then seven days, continue the normal dosing schedule as well as use other contraceptive measures until you get your next period. In case you missed taking your pill by more than a week you must start consuming it all over again and that is two times a week for three months then once a week.

How should Sevista be stored?

  • Ensure that your children and pets don't have access to the medication.
  • Keep the tablet away from heat and flame.
  • Store it at controlled room temperature.
