Melalite forte cream 4% is a prescription-strength topical medication used to manage pigmentation issues such as melasma, age spots, freckles and other hyperpigmentation disorders. When included in your skin care routine, this hydroquinone formulation reduces melanin production by inhibiting the enzyme tyrosinase, which is required for melanin synthesis (the skin pigment that gives skin its colour). Melalite forte cream is particularly prescribed for the following skin conditions:

  • Melasma- This is hormonal or sun-induced pigmentation, which often appears on the cheeks, nose, forehead, and upper lip.
  • Dark spots & sunspots- These spots may be caused by excessive sun exposure.
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation- These are the scars that are left behind after acne, burns, or injuries.
  • Freckles-    These are small brown spots on your skin caused by sun exposure.
  • Age spots- These are the pigmented patches associated with ageing.

When used correctly under medical supervision, it helps restore a clearer, more even-toned complexion. By slowing melanin production, the hydroquinone cream gradually lightens darkened skin and improves overall skin tone. With consistent and proper use, visible results are noticed within a few weeks, though complete results may take longer depending on the severity of the skin condition.

What precautions should be taken?

Do not use Melalite Forte cream 4% if you're allergic to hydroquinone or to any other ingredients in the formulation. Do not use Melalite forte cream 4% on dry, sunburned, chapped, or open skin. Hydroquinone in this medication can make this condition worse. Stop the medication if excessive irritation develops. Astringents and products with high concentrations of alcohol should be used with caution. Certain herbal products can also cause interaction; therefore, you must inform your physician about all the prescription and non-prescription medicines you use. The hydroquinone formulation may also interact with abrasive agents such as soaps, exfoliating scrubs, toners, cleansers, and other cosmetics. Therefore, ask your dermatologist about other cosmetic products that may interact with Melalite forte cream. This topical hydroquinone should not be applied to cuts, boils, abrasions, sunburn, open wounds, or chapped skin. Also, it should not be applied to bacterial, viral, or fungal infections. The safety and effectiveness of hydroquinone in the pediatric population under 12 years of age have not been established. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, avoid using Melalite forte cream. Moreover, do not use these medications that have peeling and drying effects.

What are the possible side effects?

The common side effects of Melalite forte cream 4% include redness, mild skin irritation, and sensitivity (stinging and burning). These side effects usually resolve once the skin adapts to the topical medication. The topical medication should not be applied with hydroxy acids, vitamin C or other irritating products unless you have not experienced any irritation previously with them.

How to use Melalite Forte cream 4%?

One may not see significant improvement until 2 to 6 months after starting use. The topical medication may be applied morning and night. Before you apply this pigmentation cream, make sure you remove any makeup, wash your face thoroughly and pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Squeeze a small amount and apply gently all over the dark spots and patches of melasma. The topical form can also be applied to other areas with excessive pigmentation, including the neck and the backs of the hands. Allow the cream to absorb into the skin fully before applying moisturiser or any other skincare products. Avoid the corners of the nose and mouth. Apply the formulation twice daily until the desired effects are achieved. Do not stop the medication abruptly. Once you get the desired results, reduce the frequency of hydroquinone application.  For melasma, once the discolouration has resolved, you may either discontinue or continue treatment once a week under medical supervision to maintain the desired effects. Generally, it may take up to 3 months to see significant improvement. For best results, follow your dermatologist’s advice.

What is Melalite Forte Cream used for?

Melalite hydroquinone cream is a skin lightening agent most commonly used to treat melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It is also helpful in treating other conditions such as solar lentigens, chloasma, and freckles.

How does Melalite Forte Cream work?

Melalite for dark spots contains the active ingredient hydroquinone, which is a bleaching agent. Hydroquinone bleaches your skin, reducing the number of melanocyte cells that make melanin (skin pigment). Hyperpigmentation occurs when more melanin is present due to an increased production of melanocytes. By controlling the production of melanocytes, your skin improves and becomes even-toned over time.

What is the composition of Melalite forte cream?

Melalite for dark spots is composed of hydroquinone, used in the treatment of hyperpigmentation. Hydroquinone is a skin lightening agent that reduces the amount of melanin (a skin pigment) that causes the skin to darken.
