Fertomid 50 mg is a prescription medication indicated frequently to induce ovulation. Women experience problems in conceiving because their ovaries are unable to produce and release an egg each menstrual cycle (anovulation). Your doctor may prescribe Fertomid to treat female fertility. The active ingredient of the medicine is Clomiphene citrate, which functions on the pituitary gland to release the hormones that induce follicle development within the ovary. A woman’s ovary should release an egg 6 to 12 days after completing the treatment with Clomiphene. The couple may be advised to have sex around this time to maximize the chance of conception.
If menses do not occur after the 35th day, consider either of the two possibilities:
- The dose has not been sufficient to induce ovulation or
- Pregnancy happen
In case the menses are overdue, it is important to contact the healthcare provider to receive advice.
Do not take Fertomid if you are allergic to Clomiphene citrate or any other ingredients of the medicine. Avoid taking this medicine if you are pregnant for obvious reasons. Use of this medication is contraindicated if any of the following applies to you:
- Hormone-dependent tumours
- Liver problems or history of liver disease
- Ovarian cysts that come with the exception of polycystic ovary
- Abnormal uterine bleeding of undetermined origin
Like most fertility medications, Fertomid is not meant to be used while breastfeeding.
There is a high risk of multiple pregnancies when you take Clomiphene citrate. All women taking this fertility medication should be aware of the potential complications associated with Fertomid. Discuss with your healthcare provider.
The reported side effects of Clomiphene Fertomid 50 mg are mood swings, hot flashes, nausea, headaches, and breast tenderness. These side effects are mild and usually resolve once the treatment is stopped for that cycle. Around the time of ovulation, some females complained of mild discomfort or twinges in their ovaries.
There are rare cases where the ovaries may be overstimulated, ultimately contributing to abdominal discomfort. If you develop stomach pain, distension, or bloating, seek immediate medical help. Ovarian enlargement will subside after the cycle is stopped. Some patients may also develop the appearance of spots and blurred vision. If any of these symptoms develop, please report them right away. Because of the risk of developing residual cysts on the ovaries following a clomiphene cycle, it is important to undergo an ovarian checkup by ultrasound before proceeding with another clomiphene cycle. This should be routinely performed on day 1 through day 5 of a menstrual cycle. The medicine may cause uterine fibroids to grow in size. A skin condition known as erythema multiforme may affect the mouth and other parts of the body. The risk of multiple births slightly increased with the use of this medication.
The usual suggested dose for the first course of Fertomid is one tablet a day for five days at the start of the cycle. If the first course fails to induce ovulation, you may be advised to increase the dose of the medicine in subsequent treatment cycles. Avoid increasing the dose unless instructed to do so by your healthcare professional. Consuming more than the prescribed amount may cause overstimulation of the ovaries, possibly damaging them.
The medication is usually taken daily for five consecutive days at the start of the cycle. Your healthcare provider will prescribe a dosing regimen that includes Fertomid courses. This also included the length and duration of the treatment. Long-term treatment is not recommended.
Follow the instructions provided by your healthcare specialist. These instructions may differ from the information contained in this guide. Your healthcare professional will tell you which day of your cycle you should start taking Clomiphene. If your menses are not regular, your doctor may prescribe another medicine, such as norethisterone, for some days, after which the menstrual cycle begins.
Clomiphene citrate may contribute to visual disturbances in some people. Be sure you know how you react to Fertomid before you drive a vehicle or indulge in activities that could cause harm if you are dizzy or have blurred vision.
