Veltam F 0.4mg 5 mg is a prescription treatment for patients suffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia, also known as BPH, a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland that commonly affects ageing men.
The combination of two medicines, Tamsulosin hydrochloride 0.4 mg and Finasteride 5mg, makes this medicine specifically effective in addressing the symptoms and underlying cause of prostate enlargement. Veltam F improves urine flow, reduces urinary retention, and shrinks the prostate gland, which helps patients lead a healthier and more active life. Tamsulosin causes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck to relax. When the muscles are in a relaxed state, urine flow improves, and the feeling of obstruction reduces. Tamsulosin provides quick symptomatic relief.
On the other hand, Finasteride blocks the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the hormone responsible for the growth of the prostate. It gradually shrinks the prostate gland and prevents further enlargement of the prostate. Finasteride works over the long term to reduce disease progression. The combination relieves immediate urinary symptoms while also targeting the root cause of the benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Warning with Tamsulosin and Dutasteride tablet
Veltam Plus is not indicated for use in females. The tablets should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to Tamsulosin, Dutasteride or any other medication. Before starting treatment with Tamsulosin/Dutasteride, an appropriate evaluation should be conducted to identify other conditions, such as stricture disease, infection, hypotonic bladder, prostate cancer, or other neurogenic disorders that may mimic BPH.
Caution should be exercised when administering Veltam Plus tablets to patients with impaired liver function. The signs and symptoms of orthostasis (vertigo, dizziness, and postural hypotension) have been reported more frequently in patients taking the combination tablets. With Tamsulosin/Dutasteride, there is a potential risk of syncope (temporary loss of consciousness caused by a sudden drop in blood pressure). Patients starting treatment with Veltam Plus tablets should avoid situations where injury could result in syncope. The intraoperative floppy syndrome has also been reported during cataract surgery in some patients treated with a combination of medicines.
Pregnant females should not touch this medicine; if they accidentally touch the tablets, then make sure to wash their hands properly. It is essential to stay in touch with your healthcare provider so that your progress can be closely monitored. Do not give this combination medicine to anyone, even if the symptoms are the same. Priapism, defined as persistent and painful erection of the penis, may also occur during treatment with Veltam Plus. Because this health problem can lead to permanent impotence if left untreated, patients must be advised of the seriousness of the condition.
Side effects of Tamsulosin and Dutasteride tablet
Tell your doctor if you do not feel well while taking Veltam Plus. The combination of Tamsulosin/Dutasteride helps most men with benign prostate hyperplasia, but as with all drugs, it may have unwanted side effects. All drugs can have side effects. Sometimes they are severe; most of the time they are not. You may need medical treatment if you experience some of the side effects. You may or may not experience all of them.
The reported side effects from this drug are a decrease in libido, a decrease in the volume of ejaculate, testicular pain, urticaria, swelling of the lips and face, rash, poor quality semen, and impotence. Tell your doctor if you notice any of these side effects and they worry you.
Usage instructions - Tamsulosin and Dutasteride tablet
Take Veltam Plus as directed by your doctor. Do not alter the dosing regimen unless your doctor advises you to do so. Also, avoid taking this medication after the prescribed period is over. For appropriate usage, refer to the instructions given on your prescription. If you have any concerns about using the medicine, please contact your doctor immediately.
Veltam Plus 0.4 mg 0.5 mg is usually taken once daily, approximately 30 minutes after a meal. Try to take this medication at the same time every day. Do not chew or crush the tablet; instead, swallow it whole with a glass of water. The combination medicine lowers blood pressure and may cause dizziness or fainting, especially at the start of treatment or when you restart the combination drug after a long time.
Let your doctor know if you experience severe dizziness or feel like you may faint. It may be a long-term treatment for you. Ask your doctor about the recommended duration for taking the drug. If you discontinue treatment for any reason, please notify your healthcare provider before restarting it, as you may require a different dose than the one you were previously taking.
If you have forgotten a dose, take it as soon as you remember and go back to your usual dosing schedule. If the time to take the next dose is approaching, discard the forgotten dose and take the next scheduled dose. Do not double the dose to compensate for the forgotten one. In case you feel any discomfort due to an overdose, you may need immediate medical help. Even if you do not develop any symptoms of overdose or feel well, still go to seek urgent medical help.
