Xtane 25 mg
Xtane 25 mg, also called as Exemestane, is a formulation to treat breast cancer at an early stage in postmenopausal women. This medicine is very useful for those women who are diagnosed with breast cancer and who have already been treated with Tamoxifen for 2-3 years. Doctors prescribe it for the treatment of advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women whose disease has reached next level following Tamoxifen therapy. In other words, Xtane tablets are often given to women whose cancer has progressed even after a surgery, radiation, or other cancer medications with no clinical response. India-based Natco Pharma Limited originally manufactures Xtane 25mg tablets.
Working of Xtane 25mg :
Exemestane 25mg Xtane medicine is related to the group of medications called aromatase inhibitors. It works by decreasing the production of estrogen (natural female hormone) in the body, lowering the risk of some breast tumors or breast cancer cells. This drug is prescribed for the adjuvant treatment of postmenopausal women. Those women who have a deficiency of vitamin D are advised to take its supplements during the treatment with Xtane in order to respond better.
Active Ingredient of Xtane 25mg
The main active pharmaceutical ingredient in Xtane is Exemestane. Each tablet of Xtane contains 25mg of Exemestane which is known for the anti-cancer hormone therapy.
Side Effects of Xtane 25mg:
There are some major and minor possible side effects of Xtane 25mg, such as:
- nausea
- Hypersensitivity
- Increased sweating
- Shortness of breath
- Abdominal pain
- Bone and joint pain
- A headache
- Trouble sleeping or insomnia
- Swelling of ankles or feet
- Chest pain
- An elevated level of liver enzymes
- Hot flushes

Medications interact with Xtane
Interaction Xtane tablet with alcohol is unknown. But it severely interacts with other drugs that can alter the effects of this drug and can cause some unwanted side effects. Such drugs include:
- Estradiol
- Ethinyl Estradiol
- Estrogen (Conjugase, Cornil, Espauz)
- Conjugated estrogens
- Tibolone
- Estriol
- Fosfestrol
- Rifampicin
- Phenobarbitone
- Carbamazepine
- Fosphenytoin
- Phenytoin
- Primidone
Don’t use Xtane 25mg if:
Xtane 25mg is not safe if you are pregnant, as it can affect the fetus. Breastfeeding women should also avoid taking this drug because it may cause toxicity to the baby. If you feel dizzy, tired or sleepy, don’t take Xtane tablets.
How should Xtane 25mg be used?
Generic Exemestane tablets should be taken orally after a meal. Usually, one tablet is recommended each day. Plasma levels of 18 ml are achieved on an average within 2 hours of tablet intake.
Medication course of Xtane 25 mg
There is no certain duration of the medication course with Xtane drug. Your doctor can advise you better how much to take it and for how long. During the clinical trials, a single dose was administered to a healthy woman at doses as high as 800mg, whereas some postmenopausal women with advanced breast cancer were given as high as 600mg dose a day for some 12 weeks. Those patients responded well.
Missed dose of Xtane 25 mg tablet:
If you have missed taking a regular dose of Xtane tablet, do make it double dose next time. In case of overdose, call your doctor immediately for medical help.
