Mamofen 10 mg is prescribed to treat many types of cancer. Some cancers are known to be hormone-sensitive (estrogen or progesterone receptor positive), and their growth can be affected by restricting the action of estrogen hormone. Each tablet of Mamofen contains 10 mg of Tamoxifen (the main active component), a nonsteroidal antiestrogen for oral usage. Tamoxifen blocks the action of estrogen produced by your body and decreases the growth of hormone-sensitive tumors.
Mamofen is prescribed to lower the chance of developing breast cancer in women with a higher-than-normal chance of getting breast cancer in the next five years. It is also given to lower the chance of spreading breast cancer in women who have undergone surgery and radiation for ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). DCIS is a breast cancer that affects the milk ducts.
Tamoxifen is also given in the treatment of breast cancer in women after they have finished treatment. Early breast cancer therapy includes surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Tamoxifen prevents cancer from spreading to other parts of the body. It is also effective at reducing the woman’s chance of developing a new breast cancer. The anticancer medicine is effective for both men and women when it comes to treating breast cancer that has spread to other body parts.
Inform your doctor if you have ever had an unusual allergic reaction to Tamoxifen before taking Tamoxifen.
Avoid getting pregnant while taking Mamofen 10 mg or for two months after stopping the treatment. It can interfere with the working of hormonal birth control methods. Such methods include birth control pills, rings, injections, patches, and implants. Therefore, while receiving Tamoxifen, make sure you use alternative contraceptives that do not involve the use of hormones. Such methods include condoms, IUDs, or diaphragms with spermicide. Once you get pregnant, discontinue Tamoxifen straight away and seek immediate medical help. Avoid breastfeeding as it is still not known whether the medication can pass through breast milk and if it can harm the unborn baby. Low blood counts are associated with the use of this medicine. If there is a significant reduction in blood counts, there is a chance of developing bleeding problems, infections, or anemia. Speak to your healthcare specialist immediately if you have signs of infections like fever, chills, sore throat, unexplained bruising, or bleeding.
Do not take Mamofen 10 mg to reduce your chance of developing breast cancer if any of the following applies to you:
- You have a history of blood clots that require treatment
- You are taking medications like warfarin to thin your blood
- You are at increased risk of developing blood clots. Your healthcare provider will tell you If you are at high risk for blood clots.
- Your ability to move around is limited for most waking hours.
Other drugs, such as rifampicin and some antidepressants, including paroxetine, may interact with Mamofen 10 mg. Therefore, you must inform your healthcare provider if you are taking these or any medicine, need extra blood tests, or need to be changed.
Because 10 mg of Tamoxifen Mamofen blocks the effects of estrogen on the body, it is essential to avoid estrogen replacement therapy, such as conjugated estrogens or birth control periods.
Mamofen 10 mg is not used to induce menopause unless you have reached the age of your natural menopause. On your way to menopause, you may experience irregular periods.
