Qutipin 300 mg is a prescription medicine for treating schizophrenia (a mental illness) in people 13 or older. Common symptoms of schizophrenia may include delusions (believing things that are not true), hallucinations (feeling, seeing, or smelling things that are not present), paranoia (feeling suspicious), feeling depressed, tense, or anxious, and wanting to be alone, avoiding family members and friends. It is also prescribed for bipolar disorders in adults, including:

  • Depressive state associated with bipolar disorder.
  • A manic condition associated with bipolar I disorder alone or with lithium or divalproex.
  • Long-term treatment of bipolar I disorder with divalproex or lithium.

Quetiapine, the active ingredient of the medication, treats symptoms of bipolar disorder, such as feeling tired, invincible, overreacting to what you see or hear, needing less sleep, poor judgment, sadness, misinterpreting events, severe irritability, etc. Antipsychotic medications such as Quetiapine affect the chemicals that allow communication between nerve cells. Conditions that affect the brain may be due to imbalances in certain chemicals, including serotonin and dopamine. Such chemical imbalances in the brain cause some of the symptoms you may be experiencing. The exact mechanism of action of Quetiapine is not known. However, it seems to adjust the balance of these chemicals. There is no evidence that this antipsychotic agent is addictive.
