Bimatoprost is a prostaglandin analogue, which has been formulated for the reduction of ocular pressure in patients with open angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. It is also available as a prescription eye drops for growing eyelashes.

Warnings and precautions for Bimatoprost

Before using Bimatoprost ophthalmic solution, be sure to inform your health care provider about any allergies or medical condition you may have. It is necessary to tell everything about your history, any medications you are using, whether you are pregnant r a nursing mother or any other facts that are associated with your health. Any of these factors may affect how you should use your ophthalmic solution.

Contact lenses- If you wear contact lenses remove them before using the eye drops. You can reinsert the lenses after 15 minutes after application of eye drops.

Changes in the eye- Note that Bimatoprost ophthalmic solution changes the color of the eye. Its regular use increases the amount of brown pigment in the iris, which is a colored part of the eye. However, the formulation is not known to affect the eye, and the injury to the eye is currently unknown. In most cases, the change in the iris may be permanent. This change occurs gradually in patients that it is unnoticeable for several months or even years.

Eye conditions- People suffering from certain eye conditions much as uveitis, and other problems associated with the eye lens. Consult your health care provider if you have eye disease other than glaucoma. Your health condition may affect the effectiveness of Bimatoprost eye drops.

Effect of eye drops on the hepatic functions-The efficacy of this ophthalmic solution has not been established in patients with any hepatic impairment. You must inform your prescribed if you have reduced liver function. Your decreased kidney function can affect the dosing and effectiveness of eye medication.

Pregnancy and Bimatoprost- Do not use the eye drops if you are pregnant. It is important to consult the risk and benefits of using an ophthalmic formula. Also, tell your prescriber if you have just conceived during the treatment.

Eye drops and nursing mothers– It is still not known whether the powerful medicine for glaucoma and eye lash growth passes into the breast milk. But, it if you are breastfeeding, and using the Bimatoprost eye drops, it may affect your baby inside your womb. Discuss with your healthcare specialist whether you need to stop breastfeeding or discontinue using the eye medication.

Children- The effectiveness and safety of this eye medication has not been established in children. Therefore do not give this eye drop to your kids even if he/she has the same symptoms. Always discuss the risk and benefits of giving eye solution to your children.
