Bimatoprost is a pharmaceutical ingredient that reduces elevated pressure (IOP) in patients with ocular hypertension and open-angle glaucoma. It is a synthetic prostamide analogue that exerts its mode of action by mimicking the effects of naturally occurring prostaglandins and thromboxanes, collectively referred to as prostanoids. The active ingredient has been demonstrated to lower intraocular pressure by increasing the outflow of aqueous fluid secreted by the eye.

Bimatoprost is a synthetic prostaglandin similar to naturally occurring hormones. It is supplied as an active ingredient in eye drops to treat glaucoma. The Careprost bimatoprost solution is instilled into the eye to help maintain the balance of the inflow and outflow of ocular fluid. The active agent accelerates the reduction of intraocular pressure and lowers eye pressure. It is an ideal option to lower raised pressure within your eyes.

Adverse effects of Bimatoprost ophthalmic solution
In clinical trials, adverse effects occurring in approximately 15% to 45% of patients included the following:
- Ocular pruritis
- Conjunctival hyperemia
Some rare adverse effects include the following:
- Eye pain
- Pigmentation of the periocular skin
- Visual disturbance
- Ocular burning
- Foreign body sensation
- Eyelash darkening
- Ocular dryness
